Mississauga – Summit Garden Chinese Cuisine celebrated its 10th Anniversary on April 25, 2008 with a very successful dinner and auction that raised over $27,000 for Peel Children’s Centre, the primary provider of children’s mental health services in Peel Region.

“Peel Children’s Centre is honoured to receive the funds raised at Summit Garden’s 10th anniversary celebration,” said Humphrey Mitchell, Executive Director of Peel Children’s Centre. “On behalf of the Peel community, I extend our gratitude to the restaurant’s co-owners, Ken Choi and Lawrence Lo, for their very generous support of our mission to provide high quality mental health services for children, youth and their families.”

The 10th anniversary celebration featured a delicious 8-course gourmet Chinese dinner, wine-tasting, auction, and live jazz with The Dan Bodanis Band. There was also special recognition of Ron Leynk, Publisher of The Mississauga News, and Wendy Walker, Secretary-Treasurer of the Board of Directors at Peel Children’s Centre.

Peel Children’s Centre recognized Ron Lenyk’s extensive history of voluntary and philanthropic support to the community by establishing the Ron Lenyk Volunteer of the Year Award. Wendy Walker was honoured with the Ronald E. Sanderson Community Service Award presented by The Mississauga Real Estate Board. The awards came as a surprise to both Ron and Wendy, who spoke of being humbled by their community work.

Peel Children’s Centre thanked the many partners and supporters who organized, hosted and sponsored the Summit Garden Chinese Cuisine 10th anniversary celebration.

“We owe a huge thank you to Dan Bodanis, Master of Ceremonies for the evening and leader of The Dan Bodanis Band, for playing a lead role in organizing the event, securing financial support, and providing wonderful entertainment,” Mitchell said. “We are also grateful to the event’s sponsors – Dynamic Funds, AGF, Mackenzie Investments and Fidelity Investments – and to everyone who donated auction items. Your generous support will make a positive difference in the lives of at-risk children, youth and their families.”

Mitchell recognized Summit Garden Chinese Cuisine’s long history of support to charities through the restaurant’s fundraising events.

“Ken Choi and Lawrence Lo exemplify the Peel Children’s Centre vision of ‘A caring community working together for children.’ We are very fortunate to have citizens like Lawrence and Ken who mobilize our community to support worthwhile causes both locally and around the world,” said Mitchell.
