Connect Program
Our Connect Program is an after-school program for latency–aged children who are having serious difficulties at home and at school, and who may be at risk of experiencing family breakdown or loss of school placement.

Our aim is to provide an intensive intervention across home, school and community that will:

  • help children develop social and recreational skills,
  • provide parents with positive experiences with their children,
  • help parents develop their parenting skills to support their efforts to keep their family together, and
  • help children develop life skills in order to manage better in their home, school and community.

Who is eligible for this program?
To be eligible for our Connect Program, children:

  • are 8 to 13 years of age,
  • live in the Region of Peel,
  • are involved or likely to become involved with Peel Children's Aid Society,
  • are at risk of losing their home or school placement,
  • have a high rate of externalizing behavioural difficulties and/or have a disruptive behaviour disorder diagnosis (ADHD, ODD, CD).

What do we do?
Our Connect Program involves three main activities:

  • parent and child treatment groups (Coping Power),
  • individualized support, and
  • a three-days-a-week after-school program.

The Connect Program has adopted the Coping Power Program developed by Lochman and Wells (2003). Coping Power is an evidence-based intervention for late elementary school-aged children with aggressive and disruptive behaviour who are at risk of developing more severe problems with behaviour and conduct.

Connect is an adjuctive service that is attached to the child's broader treatment plan at Peel Children’s Centre.
