Peel Children's Centre is an accredited children’s mental health centre that provides a continuum of high quality mental health services for children, youth and their families who are experiencing or may experience serious emotional difficulties. Our services are provided in a dynamic, client-centred environment that values flexibility, accessibility and responsiveness.

School Based Services provide a continuum of mental health interventions, ranging from brief interventions with individual children/youth, and short term family counselling, to therapeutic groups with children/youth and caregivers. These interventions are designed to improve child/youth development, functioning and resiliency in school, home and the community. These services will be delivered in a variety of settings and locations as mutually agreed upon with school personnel. Additionally, this service will work closely with school staff within a mutual capacity building approach, to identify and support children/youth with mental health issues.

Under the direction and guidance of a team lead and the Supervisor, Clinical Services all duties and responsibilities are provided in alignment with the agency’s Vision, Mission and Values and Clinical Philosophy. Working in an integrated service delivery system, you will demonstrate competencies required to provide service in multiple programs across the agency. You are an active learner and committed to your ongoing professional development.

The unique service components of the portfolio require a professional who has:
  • A demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and establish strong working relationships with all levels of staff in the school system;
  • Strong team and conflict resolution skills and the ability to work autonomously;
  • Proven ability to be self motivated and comfortable working in a variety of settings i.e. school, home, community;
  • Proven ability to build relationships of trust in a timely manner with a variety of clients and professionals in numerous settings;
  • Strong group facilitation skills;
  • Sound knowledge of child development, group interventions, brief family intervention models;
  • The ability to assess and provide both individual and family treatment interventions using a brief services modality;
  • Knowledge of behavioural management strategies;
  • The ability to develop, implement and evaluate treatment plans according to individual client and family/caregiver needs and to case manage;
  • Strong oral and written communications skills and the ability to write brief, succinct notes;
  • Well-developed communication, organizational and interpersonal skills as well as solid conflict resolution skills;
  • The ability to develop and maintain highly effective working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders and a strong understanding of role boundaries;
  • A proven commitment to ongoing professional development;
  • The capability to participate in quality improvement and program evaluation initiatives;
  • Competence with computer-based technology for the purpose of data entry, information sourcing and report writing;
  • A Master’s degree in Social Work or Psychology with a minimum of one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Membership in good standing of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or the College of Psychotherapists of Ontario;
  • An ability to manage a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends as required;
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License with access to a reliable vehicle;
  • Be fully bilingual (French and English), with demonstrated competence to delivery services in both official languages.
The annual salary range for this position is from $58,362 to $69,884. As a contract employee, you would also be eligible for 4% in lieu of benefits and 4% in lieu of vacation.
