What We OfferPeel Children’s Centre is pleased to operate an 8-bed, co-educational residential treatment program for Maritime youth ages 12 to 18 years.
Peel Children’s Centre’s residential treatment program provides a safe, accepting and supportive environment that temporarily offers out-of-home treatment for youth. Residential treatment is viewed as a temporary opportunity for youth and their families/caregivers to re-energize as they independently and collectively work together towards new solutions, knowing the youth will return to the community.
The length of treatment varies depending on the needs of the youth. On average, it is expected that residential stays will range from 8-10 months.
Eligibility
Appropriate referrals to this residential treatment program are those youth who are experiencing serious social, emotional and/or behavioural challenges. Given the nature of residential treatment, youth require an IQ of 70+ (verbal and full scale).
All treatment admissions are planned.
Residential treatment requires family/ caregiver involvement. The referral source (case manager) also remains involved with the youth throughout residential treatment, contributing to case planning and discharge planning.
Residential treatment is available on a per diem basis.

Our residential treatment program is staffed by a team of highly qualified Maritime professionals from many different educational backgrounds, including:
- child and youth counselling,
- social work,
- psychology,
- psychiatry,
- individual therapy,
- family therapy,
- behaviour management, and
- group therapy.
