Nexus For Professionals:
Nexus Youth Services
Since 1984, Nexus Youth Services has offered counselling services to teenagers and young adults ages 12 to 24 who live in the Region of Peel in Ontario, Canada.
Our Mission
Nexus Youth Services creates opportunities for youth by providing high quality services that are inclusive and responsive to the needs and voices of youth.
Our services are free and private. Youth age 12 or older do not require a parent’s permission to use our services.
Finding out about Nexus Youth Services is easy. Youth, parents, caregivers and referral sources can call Centralized Intake Services at 905-451-4655 to get all the information they need. Intake hours are 9:30 to 4:30, Monday to Friday. Outside these hours, callers can leave a message and a worker will call them back the next working day.
For youth age 16 or younger, either the youth or a parent/caregiver can call Centralized Intake Services. For youth over age 16, the youth must make the call to complete the intake process.
When callers contact Centralized Intake Services, a trained mental health worker will ask a few questions to decide which service or program is best for the child or youth. Usually the worker will make an appointment for the child or youth with one of these four services:
- Associated Youth Services of Peel,
- Nexus Youth Services,
- Peel Children’s Centre, or
- Trillium Health Centre – Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
If none of these services is the best one to help the child or youth, our staff will tell the caller about other services that can help.
Nexus Youth Services has two main programs: our
Community Counselling Program and
Square One Youth Centre.
Nexus Youth Services is a not-for-profit community agency and a charity. Our charitable business number is 13039 7631 RR0001.
The majority of funding for our programs at Nexus Youth Services comes from:
- the United Way of Peel Region,
- the Ministry of Children and Youth Services (Government of Ontario), and
- the Regional Municipality of Peel.
Money given to Nexus Youth Services by people and companies in our community also helps us meet the needs of youth. We thank all our donors for their generous support. While we cannot list everyone who supports Nexus Youth Services, we would like to mention these funders that have provided grants or in-kind support to Square One Youth Centre:
- F.K. Morrow Foundation,
- Hustler’s Young Men’s Bible Class Foundation,
- IBM Canada,
- McKesson Foundation/McKesson Canada,
- Red Lobster (790 Burnhamthorpe Rd. location in Mississauga), and
- The Home Depot.
Nexus Youth Services has a strategic alliance with Peel Children’s Centre. Under this arrangement, the two agencies have a common Board of Directors and share administrative services. This arrangement reduces Nexus Youth Services’ overhead costs and allows the two agencies to provide a broader range of services than either agency could provide on its own.
