Alternatives to Day Treatment:
Alternatives to Day Treatment Program Our Alternatives to Day Treatment Program is a multidisciplinary intensive service based at school for children dealing with multiple mental health issues that affect their success in school.
Often parents cannot recognize or cope with these children’s needs, or may not be willing to have their children placed in a self-contained treatment class.
Because children benefit most from their family's support, we encourage parents to take an active role in our program.
Who is eligible for our program?Typically, we treat children who
- are between 5 and 14 years of age,
- attend classes in designated areas within Brampton or Mississauga, in either the Peel District School Board or the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board,
- are about to lose their school placement,
- have moderate-to-severe problems at school that necessitate not only significant modification of their school program, but also more specialized services,
- behave disruptively with others,
- have difficulty regulating their moods and emotions, and
- have problems at home, in school, or in the community.
What do we do?Our multi-disciplinary team helps these children stay in a regular classroom by focusing on their strengths and helping them
- develop appropriate social and problem-solving skills,
- learn in an atmosphere that promotes enthusiastic, active learning, and
- interact positively with their family, peers, and authority figures in their home, school, and community.
