Community Intervention:
Community Intervention ProgramOur Community Intervention Program is a rapid response, time-limited outreach service for children between 4 and 12 years of age who have moderate-to-severe mental health issues.
Who is eligible for this service? We treat children
- between 4 and 12 years of age who have social, emotional and/or behavioural problems, and
- who have been referred by designated referral services, such as local school boards, Peel Children's Aid, Interim Place, Family Life Resource Centre, and Peel Case Management Service.
We also treat children and youth
- under 18 years of age who have both developmental delays and mental health concerns, and
- who have been referred by designated referral sources, such as Brampton/Caledon Community Living and Community Living Mississauga.
The families of clients in this program
- may not have used traditional mental health services,
- may have a history of unsuccessful use of traditional mental health treatment, and
- may be socially isolated, with few supports to help them cope.
What do we do?A child and family clinician will assess the child’s and family’s needs and strengths, and develop a treatment plan. Treatment may include
- individual and family counselling,
- group services, and
- psychological and psychiatric assessment and consultation.
We primarily treat the children in their home. But we may treat them at school or in the community, based on the family’s needs.
The child’s treatment must be completed within 6 months of the parent/caregiver's initial telephone discussion with the child and family clinician. The family then returns to the referral agency for continued case management.
How can you access our service? If you are from a referring agency, you can access these services by faxing referral and consent forms to Centralized Intake Services at
905-696-0352.
