Counselling Services:
Counselling ServicesOur Counselling Services helps children who are having difficulties improve how they function at home, in school, and in the community. Working with children and their family in an office-based setting, we focus on their strengths to help these children develop normally.
Who is eligible for our services? To be eligible for our Counselling Services,
- the child must be under 18 years of age and live in the Region of Peel,
- the child must have mild-to-moderate impairment in the home, school, or the community, and
- the child’s needs can be met with office-based counselling on a weekly, or less frequent, basis.
What do we do?In collaboration with the adults responsible for the child, we work with the child and the family
- to restore and enhance their unique problem-solving and coping skills,
- to increase their ability to cope with difficult stages in their lives, and
- to increase the child’s ability to adjust within the family, school, and community.
We begin with Single-Session Therapy (SST). Families are able to access as many SST appointments as needed. If the child or family needs more than three single sessions, we offer two options.
- The child or family may call whenever they need counselling services, but they may meet with a different clinician each time.
- The child or family may choose ongoing counselling with a consistent clinician, but there will be a wait for this service.
The needs of the child determine how long the counselling will last.
