Sexual Abuse Treatment:
Our Sexual Abuse Treatment Program provides specialized out-client services for children and families dealing with sexual abuse and sexually offending behaviours.
In our program, we focus on
- remediating the trauma of sexual abuse or assault,
- preventing future offences, and
- supporting family members when incest has occurred.
Who is eligible for our program? We treat children under 18 years of age living in the Region of Peel, who are survivors of sexual abuse or assault.
We also help
- children under 18 years of age who exhibit sexualized behaviours,
- adolescents who have committed sexual offences, and
- families in which sexual abuse among siblings has occurred.
What do we do?Our clinical services include assessment, treatment, and follow-up.
Assessments are psychometrically validated and may include a trauma assessment, sexualized behaviour assessment, offence-specific assessment, and risk assessment.
We treat children or youth and their supportive parents or caregivers using a combination of individual, group, and family counselling. Empirically based interventions such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy are provided for all clients of the program.
When their treatment has been completed, children or youth and their families are advised that issues often arise in the future and that, should this happen, they are welcome to return to the program for additional help.
