Community Intervention:
Community Intervention ProgramIf your child needs help right now for his or her mental health problems, our Community Intervention Program can help.
Can your child use our program?Your child between 4 and 12 years of age can use our program
- if your child’s mental health problems are serious,
- if your child is sent to us by a specific group, such as a local school board, Peel Children's Aid, Interim Place, Family Life Resource Centre, or Peel Case Management Services,
- if your child has problems with relationships, feelings, or behaviour, and
- if you and your family have few people to help you deal with your child’s problems.
Your child under age 18 can use this program
- if your child has problems doing things that most children of the same age can do (this is called a developmental delay),
- if your child also has mental health problems, and
- if your child is sent to us by a specific group, such as Brampton/Caledon Community Living or Community Living Mississauga.
What do we do?A child and family mental health worker will talk to you about your child’s and family’s needs and strengths. He or she will work with you to help decide how best to treat your child.
The treatment we offer will help you make the most of your child’s and family’s strengths.
- Your child may have counselling alone, with your family, or in a group.
- You or your child may talk to a psychiatrist or psychologist. These people are specially trained to assess problems with behaviour and feelings caused by illness or difficult situations.
Based on your family’s needs, we will treat your child in your home, at school, or in the community. Your child’s treatment may last about 6 months after you first talk to your mental health worker.
How can you find out more about our program? To find out more about our program, first you need to talk to the group that cares for your child right now
– for example, Brampton/Caledon Community Living or Community Living Mississauga. They will talk to us and we will ask them to send our Centralized Intake Services some forms. They will also tell you when to call our Centralized Intake Services so that we can begin treating your child.
